Heart of the Berkshire’s
If you’re able to break away from fishing for a while, you’ll discover plenty of other cultural and recreational things to do in the area. It won’t take long to see why the Berkshires have enjoyed such enduring popularity. In fact, the region’s delightful climate and pristine woodland settings have made it a popular retreat since the early 1830s.
• The Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. Held every year in rustic Becket, this celebration of modern dance, ballet and jazz is the oldest festival of its kind in the country.
• Tanglewood. The summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Bring a picnic dinner to this elegant Lenox estate and listen to music under the stars.
• Summer theaters. Each summer, top stars come to the Berkshire and Williamstown Theater Festivals to perform. In addition, Shakespeare & Company performs the Bard at The Mount. Check calendars for performance schedules.
• Hancock Shaker Village. Take a step back in time and stroll through an authentic reproduction of a Shaker village. See the buildings and simple, graceful furniture styles- that define Shaker style.
